About Lexarithmos (Isopsephy)
Lexarithmos, also known as isopsephy, is the ancient Greek practice of assigning numerical values to letters. Each Greek letter corresponds to a number (Α=1, Β=2, Γ=3 ... Σ=200, Τ=300, and so on). Words or phrases with the same total value were believed to share mystical connections. This system was used in philosophy, theology, and divination throughout antiquity.
